“The two things I want to be doing in my life right now are school and rowing,” he says, “and I get to do both for my two favorite institutions in the world: The Ohio State University and the United States of America. It doesn’t get any better than that.”
This may not seem like a miracle to some, but for Blake Haxton, it certainly is. Haxton, a U.S. Para-Rowing National Team rower, fought a long-time battle with necrotizing fasciitis, or “flesh-eating disease”. The disease, along with other complications, required doctors to amputate his legs during his last year at Upper Arlington High School. This didn’t cause Blake to give up hope, but lead him on to earn two degrees and a spot on the U.S. Para-Rowing National Team.
